Our Soap

All our soap is handmade here at Maison Provence. Organic oils and butters are used and our recipes are kind to your skin. Our soap is guaranteed to be free of Palm Oil. All the soap on sale is vegan and only essential oils are used to fragrance the soap. No nasties.

All packaging is recycled.

The bars are hand cut and so may vary a little in weight but they will average 100g.

To make the most of your soap use it in a soap dish that allows the water to drain away otherwise the soap will become less solid.

Lots of thought goes into each bar of soap and we hope that you enjoy using them as much as we love making them.

It’s all about the soap…

The Fragrance

There are many fragrance oils on the market which are often used in soap. To be honest the scent is stronger and there may be more variety and more “fun” fragrances. So why do we choose to use only essential oils in our soap? We believe in using products which are completely natural and where possible organic. Fragrance oils will contain some essential oils but there will also be synthetic methods used to create the scent. Essential oils have known benefits for our well being and isn’t it just wonderful to know that the product you are using on your skin is actually good for you?

Cold Process

All soap made at Maison Provence is made using the traditional Cold Process method. It is a method that dates back to around 2800BC when the ancient Babylonians mixed together fats and ash to make the very first soap. Ancient Egyptians created soap made from both vegetable and animal fats. We don’t use ash these days but we do use a derivative of this called Caustic Soda to which a liquid is added - often distilled water, it then becomes lye. This gets added to the oils and butters and blended together to make soap. There are no traces of lye left in the soap by the time we use it.

Packaging

Packaging is very important to us here at Maison Provence. Labels must be included on our products therefore we think very carefully about what we use and how it gets used. All of our packaging is made with recycled products.
